A PINK CHAIR FOR A PINK CHAIR-ITY

Are you ready for one of the most anticipated events this month in Victoria BC?  On the 26th of October, Luxe Home Interiors is hosting a Pink Chair-ity Gala Fundraiser with proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

We were very fortunate to have our chair design  selected as one of the 11 chairs that are going to be auctioned off.

For our design we selected a stunning chair frame from the Joe Ruggiero Collection for Miles Talbot.  “The Bergen” chair has won many awards; among the most coveted awards is the Pinnacle award which is considered the "Oscar" of the American Home Furnishings Industry.  Joe Ruggiero himself sent a very nice card with a message for the future chair owner.

To customize the chair for this event we lacquered the Berger chair in Benjamin Moore’s ‘Cloud White’ (OC-130) and used 3 different fabrics and contrast piping to make this chair as unique as the potential new owner.

We wanted a traditional feel with a modern twist.  Our inspiration fabric was a Lilly Pulitzer linen fabric by Lee Jofa with a dragon motif and whimsical trims to help which we used to create this fun pillow to help this chair feel perfectly in place at its new home.

Our chair design represents the cancer survivors, their willingness to fight, and the zest for life that comes from winning the battle (and really, what could possibly be a better symbol of a fighter than a dragon?). A vibrant, playful colour palette – including the signature Breast Cancer Foundation pink – with a mix of patterns and textures, offset with their application on a classic chair frame.

We piped the chair in a solid and subtle pink tweed and we covered the back with a Dwell fabric in an ogee pattern in lime green and off white.  After all, we wanted the chair to look great from all angles and to have unexpected moments.

We created a very simple but effective vignette to convey the survivor story. We used white and bronze accents – The side table by Dwell is the perfect complement to the shape of the chair adding soft and feminine lines.  A large white jar, and a Jonathan Adler horse ceramic combine elements of classic and modern style and juxtapose beautifully with a bamboo ladder (which will be the base for a floral arrangement the day of the exhibition) and a Chinese calligraphy paint brush to play off the Asian influence of the inspiration pillow.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Luxe Home Interiors for inviting us to participate in this event, Joe Ruggiero for his support, Kravet Canada for supplying the Lilly Pulitzer fabric and trim, and a very special “THANK YOU” to Monika Kurc for sewing the stunning dragon pillow for us.
