A Cool Event!

Isaiah Bell

I have always believed that we need to support our local talent, this gentleman is also a young talent that needs us, as a community, to help him achieve his dreams.   The next step in his career is to move to Calgary for a residency with the Calgary Opera in October.  I will be spending my Thursday evening supporting Isaiah and getting my cultural fix.   I hope to see you there!

Victoria BC, Canada

Victoria tenor and composer Isaiah Bell is about to relocate to Calgary this fall for the Emerging Artist program at Calgary Opera. Before leaving in late September, he and pianist Robert Holliston are coming together to offer a recital of some of their favourite music.

Part of the program is Schumann's magical song cycle Liederkreis op. 39, which Isaiah recently performed at Canada's 2009 National Music Festival, in which he was awarded 1st place, as well as the Jan Simons' Award for Song Interpretation.  Times Colonist Article

Though he may be best known in Victoria for his over-the-top operatic composition/production attempts, during the last six years Isaiah has performed as a vocal soloist with virtually every major musical ensemble in the Greater Victoria area, including the Victoria Symphony, Pacific Opera Victoria, the Civic Orchestra of Victoria, the UVic Orchestra and Chorus, the Victoria Chamber Orchestra, the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra, the Victoria Philharmonic Choir, the Victoria Choral Society, CappriCCio Vocal Ensemble, the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Salt Spring Island's Bach on the Rock, the Linden Singers, the UVic Lieder Singers and UVic's Phoenix Theatre, as well as various groups in Western Canada and the United States."

“Admission to this special concert is by donation, with donations going to help me buy a piano to practice on in Calgary, a couple of necessary opera scores, new headshots and a suit that doesn't suck (I cannot describe how desperately needed this last item is! My current one is too small for me, and is, literally, being held together by threads). Please come and support!”  - Isaiah Bell

Sounds like a fun evening for a good cause :-) A great Canadian tenor and composer can't be wearing a suit that sucks!!

Have fun :-)

You're right, Candy + Colour = Fab combo!! I'll be writing more posts about colour for sure -- and I might actually know what I'm talking about, seeing as I'm taking a colour theory course ;-)
