As seen in SNAP Victoria June 2012
After such a rainy spring in Victoria B.C. , I believe we are anxious for summer. I think everybody needs some sun and some heat. Summer is the time where new interior design trends emerge and if you want to inject your home with some sunshine these are the 3 trends I have spotted:
FLOWER POWER – You can see lots of floral prints and textures making their way into homes this season; from bold over-scale prints to petite feminine details. Even the colour palette is nature-inspired with brave colour blocking and accents. This is the perfect trend to wallpaper an accent wall, bring new linens to the bedroom or to reupholster that old chair.
PASTEL FEVER – But these are not your grandma’s pastels. These vibrant hues with a vintage vibe will add a soft and feminine atmosphere to any space. The seduction of pastels is definitely influenced by the hues of the macaroons. This trend tastes sweet and is the perfect way to tone down the Flower Power trend, and introduce new colours and dimension into your home.
SNOW IN SUMMER – This season white is not only for brides. For a more interesting look, mix different white textures and sheens - matte versus gloss. White can be a playful palette, so go ahead and play with contrast to achieve a look that is unique to your home. White also makes the perfect background, as white is a mix of all colours - it can be clean, modern and crisp (with a sleek lacquered furniture piece) or comfortable and casual (with a linen slipcover). White can add patina (think whitewash) or give a fresh look to an antique (a high-gloss coat of paint completely revitalizes an old mirror frame). White is a chameleon colour, it’s all in how you use it.
You can definitely mix these 3 trends together, or pick just one. Summer is about having fun. A great time to bring some colour to your skin and your home.
